On my most recent playthrough I installed the mods "Symphonic Remasters Redux", "The Reunion", and "Satsuki Yatoshi Mod - SYW" to enhance the game's graphics and audio. There's an in-game arcade with some enjoyable minigames you can play (and win prizes!), and eventually you get the ability to capture, breed, and race chocobos, which is mostly unnecessary for the storyline but happens to be a lot of fun.
Collecting and levelling up the materia can be a lot of fun, and it gives players more options when deciding which characters to use because anyone can be a mage by equipping the right materia. I love the materia system used for combat, I don't understand why people complain about it because it's the more interesting magic system of any Final Fantasy game. The story, setting, characters, and gameplay combine to make a fun and memorable experience that's worth playing through multiple times. This is a great classic game, my favorite of the Final Fantasies and one of my favorite games all around.
